CHARLES
ERNEY

was
born in Budapest, at 13th February 1874 - he is the son of
government counsellor general and the National School of Music's
director Joseph Erney of Nagyernye. After completing his
studies at the Commercial Academy and a four year long,
mostly on
abroad made practice, he begun his service by the First
National Savings-Bank of Pest. He has begun in
1894 like a trainee and advanced from step for step, after
more then one generation work, as the late Mr. Julius Walder's
successor into the general director's chair. Except this
institute he practices his unusual economical activity in a
whole set of board of directors of banks, commercial and
industrial enterprises. He is member of the board of directors
among other things of the National Banking Corporation Ltd., the Tannin
Factory and Steam-Saw Ltd. Co. of Nasic, the First
Hungarian Economical Machine Factory, the Steam Mill of
Borsod-Miskolc, the Capital's Brewery, the
Budapest Capital's Traffic Ltd. Co. and the Co-operative
"Hangya"
(Ant).
He is committee member of the Central Corporation of Banking
Companies, main councillor of the National Bank of
Hungary. Stock exchange councillor and president of the Budapest
Commercial Academy's managing committee, member of the
Council of the National
Industry und
of the
Council of the
Commerce's Special Education.
To recognize his services in the
Hungarian economics appointed him the governor in 1923 for
main councillor of the treasury. He did not undertake any
political activity for a long time; at the appearance of Count Stephen Bethlen
he has been his follower. The Minister of Finance asked often
for his advices, so he practiced deciding influence in many
questions in connection of finances.
From
these of his activities should be mentioned that he made at the
time - for the order of the at that time Minister of Religion
and Education: Count Kunó Klebersberg -
the goldbudget
of the Hungarian Opera. As the
Minister of Cultural Affairs occupied with the
national theatres' financing, the Ministry of Religion and
Education arranged the budget of the Opera
according to Erney's goldbudget plan.
Although he has kept away himself from the
political activity for a long time, it is worthwhile to mention
that he was mentioned in political circles like one előharcos
of the free choosing of the king.
Since
1927 he is member of the Main House of the National Council. The
governor has appointed him for
the member of the Main House of the National Council for a
lifelong period. The House has always heard his speeches in topic of economics and
finances with unusual attention..
